Have I got errectile dysfunction?

Postby jer on Mon Jun 15, 2009 7:32 pm

Hi everyone,
I have just decided to come on this forum as I'm at my wits end and need some advice.
I started seeing my wife in Jan 2004. The first few months were great sexually but things started to gradually downhill after that. I frequently cannot maintain an errection, often losing my erection when my partner takes the initiative or even los :( ing it during peneteration. You can imagine how my partner feels - even though she is very understanding. I do want sex but get anxious about it - if that makes sense. As soon as i get these thoughts my erection subsides. Have read a book on resurrecting your sex life, have been for counselling to help me relax and am even going to a homeopath to try and sort it out. Nothing seems to be working. On top of that, we have been trying unsuccessfully for a baby for nearly three years. i dont think my problem has contributed to our lack of success as I have delievered the goods most months. My partner will be going through her second session for fertility treatment next month and I dont want to burden her too much with my problem.
Am going to the GP this week - I am seriously thinking of asking to be prescribed one of the drugs for erectile dysfunction. Any suggestions. Also. has anyone taken vitagra which is the herbal version of viagra.

To be honest I wouldn’t bother with nay herbal crap its not going to work. If you are going to your GP's they will give you all the advice you need. I would imagine it’s just a temp thing due to stress. A course on Viagra or Levitra would soon get your confidence back.

I think a specialist in the field of ED is the best people to investigate and treat the cause. So you should visit genitourinary specialist.

A penile erection is the hydraulic effect of blood entering and being retained in sponge-like bodies within the penis. The process is often initiated as a result of sexual arousal, when signals are transmitted from the brain to nerves in the penis.

Erectile dysfunction is indicated when an erection is difficult to produce. There are various circulatory causes, including alteration of the voltage-gated potassium channel, as in arsenic poisoning from drinking water. The most important organic causes are cardiovascular disease and diabetes, neurological problems (for example, trauma from prostatectomy surgery), hormonal insufficiencies (hypogonadism) and drug side effects.

During the time my husband and I have been dating and married, he has had some episodes where he has not been able to have an erection during intercourse. He is only 37, very healthy (has an examination and blood test every year), is not on any medication, and does not drink or smoke. He works out every other day and has a good diet.

He insists that there is not a problem between us and that I am not the cause of him not being able to have an erection.
He has been able to masturbate and keep his erections during this period and on several occasions has been able to have an erection for us to have intercourse.

Although you may be embarrassed, it is important that a healthcare professional diagnoses ED so that the cause can be identified.

ED can usually be diagnosed after a consultation with your GP. This will involve answering questions about your symptoms, as well as a physical examination and some simple tests.

Having high levels of blood sugar can slow down the blood flow and result in ED. As a matter of fact Erectile Dysfunction is very common among men who have diabetes and over 50% of Men with diabetes have it. Speaking with your doctor about treatment options is a good idea and many Diabetic men prefer Levitra, so asking your doctor if it’s the right med for you is a good start.
